Job Title: Quantity Surveyor

Location: Newbury

On behalf of our client, a leading provider of painting, decorating, and refurbishment services, we are recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor to join their expanding commercial team in Newbury (Reading). Following the successful launch of their Newbury unit earlier this year, our client has secured long-term cyclical contracts and is looking to build on this success by adding a Quantity Surveyor to their team.

This role offers a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic, people-focused, and entrepreneurial Quantity Surveyor to work within a dedicated commercial and operational team that serves the public, private, residential, and education sectors.

The Job role:

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing tendering, estimating, and on-site measurement for a variety of projects. This includes working on established frameworks and contracts with prestigious clients in the public and residential sectors, along with opportunities in retirement living, commercial, and education. Key responsibilities include:

Preparing cost estimates for contracts and tenders, identifying potential commercial risksCompleting cost value reconciliations, ensuring effective contract planningCollaborating with the Contracts Manager to set labour productivity targetsBuilding and maintaining strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure smooth contract progressReviewing weekly site reports, ensuring all cost data (labour rates, budgets, value, progress, safety, quality) is accurate and up-to-date

Requirements:

Proven experience in a similar estimating and surveying role, with commercial management of projects from tender to final accountExperience managing projects worth up to £3 million annuallyStrong commercial, analytical, and negotiation skills, with an eye for identifying business opportunities and maximising valueA collaborative, organised, and honest approach, thriving in a team environment and building long-term relationships

The Job role:

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will handle tendering, estimating, and on-site measurement. You'll work on a mix of frameworks and high-profile contracts across housing, defence, commercial, and education sectors. Your main duties will include:

Preparing cost estimates for contracts and tenders, identifying risks and proposing mitigation.Managing cost value reconciliations, highlighting risks and opportunities for effective contract planning.Collaborating with the Contracts Manager on productivity targets and labour incentives.Building strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to manage variations and contract progress.Reviewing weekly site reports to ensure accurate cost data (labour rates, budgets, quality, and safety).

Requirements:

Proven experience in managing projects from tender to final account.Ability to manage projects up to £2 million annually.Experience with Schedule of Rates (SORs).A background in painting, refurbishment, or construction (preferably).An entrepreneurial mindset with a focus on identifying business opportunities and maximising value.

You will play a crucial role in overseeing the commercial aspects of a range of housing refurbishment projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:
* Manage and oversee all commercial activities related to planned and reactive refurbishment projects in the social housing industry.
* Provide detailed cost management, forecasting, and reporting to ensure budgetary compliance.
* Work closely with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to negotiate contracts and manage variations.
* Prepare tenders, conduct valuations, and produce financial statements.
* Lead and mentor junior quantity surveyors, ensuring best practices in cost management and project delivery.
